UPEACE NY Women

UPEACE Women is a way for women to make their voices heard in peace movements. But beyond that, it is a timely and strategic initiative with real potential to contribute to global success. There are three key reasons why this matters: 

 

I) When women are involved in peace processes, the agreements reached are 35 percent more likely to sustain over time and across generations,

II) Women’s participation increases the chances of agreement and helps address the root causes of conflict 

III) Investing in women’s economic empowerment also benefits peace, prosperity, and innovation. An estimated seven trillion US dollars might be added to the global economy by reducing the gender gap and raising the representation of women.

 

In 2024, Dr. Robin Stern, UPEACE Global Ambassador, organized a meeting in New York City for women professionals to discuss, strategize, and support UPEACE New York’s mission. 

 

The working group intends to hold quarterly meetings with guest speakers, UPEACE New York updates, and create a space to exchange ideas on how to continue strengthening the group’s work. UPEACE Women is also actively seeking partnerships with other organizations and groups such as UN Women and the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
