Future Peacebuilders Program
Launched in 2024, the Future Peacebuilders Program (FPP) was envisioned as more than just an internship and fellowship program. It is a bridge across generations, a space where peace is not just taught but practiced.
The program is tailored to bringing together high school and undergraduate students together with master’s and doctoral candidates to learn about the work of peace through mentorship, experiential learning, program design, and implementation in a dynamic environment based in New York.
Interns and fellows gain expertise about the United Nations system and have the opportunity to participate in events such as high-level political forums and roundtables while supporting UPEACE New York’s expansion of their peace education mission.
In its first year, FPP’s cohort was based entirely in the United States, where they supported a High Level Political Forum (HLPF) session titled Unlearning Intolerance: Global citizenship education and SDG 16 in partnerships with the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU). This event allowed participants a first hand look at what it takes to bring a UN initiative to life.
One year later, the program has expanded to an international reach, with half of the cohort coming from international high schools and universities.
The 2025 cohort continues to support the mission of positioning programming, deepening partnerships and bringing youth-led perspectives to the work of peacebuilding.
